Welcome to Day Four
What career would light me on fire?
Today we get to the nitty gritty of the big life purpose... live your passion question. Ready?
It always amazes me what a huge question this becomes for so many people.
Some folks spend their whole life searching for the job or career that will be their
whole-hearted passion and life mission... but many never seem to find it.
It becomes a huge stress and worry.
Remember when you were young? You never thought to yourself, "Is this my passion?" You would just play and if you liked it you'd keep playing and if you didn't you'd move onto the next game.
You made daisy chains, drew dinosaurs with crayons, you gave your doll a haircut
then made a cubby house out of pillows. You were led purely by your joy and curiosity.
There was no analysis of should I be doing this. No one told you to do things.
You just followed your own inner flow without judgement of whether it was what you were supposed to be doing at that age, what you'd earn or how it will affect your future prospects...
you simply did what you loved!
So when people ask me what they are supposed to be doing with their lives
or what their life passion is...
I say "what do you love to do'.
Once again it comes back to our simple day 2 question... what do you want?
Many people have forgotten, suppressed, denied and ignored what they love
and what they want for so long that they feel stuck.
Many people have spent so much time doing what they should do
or doing what others expect them to do that they have overlooked what they love.
Some people love doing so many things they can't decide
which passion to pursue so they are frozen with indecision.
What started off as a simple concept as a kid,
has become a big over-analysed mystery as an adult.
So let's uncover what it is that you love and what would be a great fit for you to explore as a career.
Journal it up yo!
The question I have found to have the most impact in answering the life purpose question is this:
What would you do as a career if there was no chance of failure
and money or time was unlimited?
Take a deep breath, open your diary and see what words flow when you ask yourself this question.
This will help to get your excuses out of the way and tap into your pure desire.
Here are some more questions to ponder today.
What version of crappy is most appealing?
Every career has its challenging days.
All careers involve sacrifice of some sort or some kind of cost.
The question is what kind of sacrifice are you willing to make? And what kind of career will be so rewarding you are willing to face the challenges associated with it?
What are you willing to ride the challenging waves for?
What advice would your 7 year old self have for you?
Often when we struggle to decide on what career to pour our energy into we have lost touch
with what was important to us as child. It is our child within that know what we love,
what we were born to do without the shoulds of society being in the way.
Write a letter from your 7 year old self to the present day you
and allow any intuitive advice to flow.
What do you love doing that can even make you forget to eat?
The things we do that turn hours into minutes are the things that get us out of our head
and into a flow state where the divine pours through us and time stands still.
What could you do all day and thrive doing?
How can you embarrass yourself to the max?
When we first embark on any career path we often still have lots to learn.
Before we can master any area of life we need to 'fall over' many times.
What are you willing to be exposed and vulnerable doing?
What have you overcome in your life that you can help others overcome?
Sometimes our biggest challenges become a path for us to walk on to guide others.
It is the silver lining to the cloud that has rocked our life.
What are you skilled at guiding others in either through your training or life experience?
Which social/environmental/health issue are you most passionate about
and could create a service for?
Hopefully these more specific questions have chiselled away into the depths of your soul and uncovered one or a few career paths.
Allow yourself to continue to reflect over the next 24 hours
and tomorrow we will chart your steps forward from here.
