Does your mind race around at a hundred miles an hour some days?
Do you feel that you race through life often in your head... kinda top heavy?
Do you feel that your mind seems to get in the way of your life adventure?
If your answer is YEP YEP YEP.. don't worry it seems that most of the modern world is in their head.
Blah blah blah... and on goes the minds constant commentary.
The wise ones tell us to stop believing our thoughts...
but the cells of the body seem convinced of the minds words and quickly contract like stone.
They tell us to live in the moment and be present with the now...
but the movie of the mind kidnaps us from the moment and catapults us into the worries of the future.
They tell us to follow our heart and intuition...
but sometimes the mind seems so powerful that it's like trying to lasso a wild bull with a shoe lace...
not gonna happen!
So even though we know better... why does it sometimes seem so hard to escape the minds powerful and constant worrying, ruminating, judging, doubting and analysing?
I'm glad you asked!
Over the years of adventuring through my own mental circus and guiding others to navigate their crazy mental storms... it is clear the main reason our mind goes wild.
The reason our mind speeds up and goes crazy is NOT to sabotage us,
it is NOT to ruin our lives,
it is NOT to make us suffer,
it is NOT to make life a struggle.
A busy mind is simply the alarm bell... DING... reminding us to feel.
Yep that's it... FEEL FEEL FEEL
Our culture is so shit scared of feeling the challenging feelings of anger, fear, shame and guilt that we simply pop up into our head to avoid them.
We have been encouraged to avoid feeling... here take this pill.
We are constantly fed images of false personas, fake smiles, happy masks, pretend peaceful people, academy award acting buddhas who are riddled with emotional time bombs.
I know because I used to be one of those fake happy and peaceful people until I exploded into a thousand pieces! Ha!
The sooner we learn to feel, be real, show our vulnerability, live more in our hearts and embody our wisdom not just let it be a script in our head, the sooner our mind will settle and be at peace with what is.
Our busy mind kick starts when we are avoiding how we feel.
Drop, drop, drop into your body and feel the scary stuff.
You can do it!
Busy mind = sit and breathe into a feeling that is emerging.
For the small waves of emotion this works well...
we can just realise we are in our head, we can drop into our heart and simply breathe love and acceptance into whatever emotion is present until it passes.
but for the big waves,
and for the tsunamis of emotion we can often seem powerless to escape the minds ambush of crazy thoughts.
Old traumas from the past often have a strong numbness and shut down button that freezes the flow of emotion giving the mind free reign to take the floor.
Bang... off it goes with it's wild judgements and fictional worries leaving us in it's wake, dragging painfully behind the mind and hanging on for dear life.
These are the times that we need to reach out for help.
We need to stop pretending that we are fine and acknowledge the emotions that are craving release below the surface.
The emotional tsunamis are not meant to be faced alone.
Little waves, moderate waves... yes go for it... be empowered and practice the art of feeling each wave breathing deeply into whatever arises.
But don't ignore the tsunamis and drag out the suffering on your own.
For some people it's so hard to even admit they are struggling because it can feel like a kind of failure... but I too need to reach out when the big waves hit and I have my professional support team ready to guide me through the stuff I feel stuck in and am avoiding.
We need a powerful presence and wise guide to help us to unlock the frozen traumas of the past and to release them so that we can settle our minds back into the peace of the present moment.
Be brave people and feel.
Encourage yourself and those around you to feel.
Next time your mind goes wild, don't fight it, instead see it as a wise alarm bell reminding you to drop into your body. Move, dance, exercise if you need to and feel, feel, feel.
If the emotions moving through the body feel too overwhelming to face alone or you feel shut down and numb... reach out. Most of my clients are very high functioning people who are massive supports for others.
I'm here to support you. My personal coaching programs guide you step by step through the mental patterns and emotional wounds to the peace at the core of who you are.
