Ever experienced someones smile burst out of them, pierce your heart and melt it into a river of joy?
One of the most precious gifts we can ever share is an honest, genuine smile that has bubbled up from the depths of our being.
In the west we are masters of the fake smile. It is not so socially acceptable to take our sad face out in public, so we often pop on our fake smile instead.
We wear a plastic smile mask like a fashion accessory.
For the 'perfect smile' we pay money to whiten and straighten our teeth.
When we see some-one in the street, we lift our cheeks and show our teeth but our eyes are often sad, our heart is often heavy and our cells stressed.
For many... the smile starts and ends at our lips.
Soooo let's all learn to swallow our smiles, shall we? Let's send ripples of heart bursting joy into our inner world so that we can smile with our gizzards... not just our lips!
It gathers momentum as it shoots up from their feet, up their spine, it collects a bucket of joy as it moves through their heart and bursts through their eyes like a love rocket.
When you witness a pure smile like this, it bursts through any of the sadness you are carrying, it pierces your armour and reaches all the way to the depths of your soul.
Receiving a genuine smile is so overwhelming that you can't help but smile in return. Before you know it your cheeks are up around your ears and your heart is doing a little side shuffle happy dance!
The secret to mastering this supersonic magic smile is all in the swallowing, according to a local Balinese Shaman in the photo (with me) above.
A friend of mine who recently visited this shaman for advice on her health issue was told she needed to swallow her smile everyday!
Can you imagine a western doctor telling you to do this? Ha!
"Take these pills and shallow your smile with every meal." Geez we would be a much healthier culture if they did tell us this!
So I have a little challenge for you this week. Let's all do this together. Undertake the following steps daily and let's spread a wave of genuine smiles around the planet.
Inner Smile Meditation
Step One - Every morning as you wake, before you get out of bed, sit upright and close your eyes.
Step Two - Focus your attention on all the things that you are grateful for in your life right now and allow a natural smile to appear on your face.
Step Three - When the smile has filled your mind with joy... swallow it... literally! Do a real swallow and feel the smile ripple through your digestive system and into every cell in your being.
Step Four - Allow the smile to ripple through any of your health issues. Allow the smile to ripple through any of your worries, your so called problems, your challenges, your sadness and your pain. Allow the smile to soften the parts of you that are held tight. Allow the smile to bring light to any darkness within.
Step Five - As you continue with your day leave your fake smile at home and take your genuine, heartfelt, grateful smile out into the world and share it around. Watch how your day transforms.
