I started writing a my second book over the last few weeks. My first book I wrote 5 years ago is called True Healing and it is a 40 day do-it-yourself healing workbook which takes you step by step through a personal transformation. This new book is another guided transformation process that uses the powerful landmarks in the Byron Bay area and its surrounds. It is called 'Buried Treasure in Your Backyard' and is a guide to the many power spots in the region. It guides the reader to visit these spots and undertake different meditations and investigations in their life. It provides keys to unlock the hidden treasures within nature and within you!
So todays blog is a sneak peak of one of the books power spots and associated meditation. It is the most famous and obvious spot.....the Byron Bay Lighthouse.
Cape Byron is known as Walgun (meaning shoulder) to the local Arakwal aboriginal people. They used the headland as a ceremonial ground for spiritual insights and initiations. One of the totems of the Arakwal people is the sea eagle. The Lighthouse walk is a popular activity for tourists and locals to undertake. It takes you past a number of spectacular bays, cliffs and landscapes. You can complete this meditation as a 1 to 2 hr walking circuit or you can just drive to the top and sit at the highest point on the headland. Begin the walk from Clarkes Beach car park. Walk along the beach to the pass. Follow the path inland through Palm Valley and around the cliffs path to Watego's beach. Walk along the beach to the path leading upwards that climbs up to the the Lighthouse.
Meditation Exercise – Eagles expanded wings
Allow yourself to be drawn to a particular spot near the lighthouse. Sit down and notice what happens to your mind when you have a large view and an expansive horizon all around you. Allow your mind to open and expand to create room for all that is moving through you to arise. Meet every thought as an open, expanded and silent witness. Look out at the world around you from the eagles perspective. Allow this 'birds eye perspective' to gain clarity on your current life circumstances. Open your mind like the eagles wings and the vast sky. Allow thoughts to pass like clouds drifting in the sky. As the mind matures it opens, humbles and surrenders to the power, wisdom and beauty of life itself. An immature mind is closed, tries to control and resist life's flow. Allow your mind to open and soar like an eagle. This allows the wisdom of your inner being, life and nature (which are one in the same) to shine through. Sit, breathe and open for at least 30 mins.
Investigation Questions – Do you have any decisions to make that you have been trying to figure out? Use this open expansive nature spot to open your mind and allow any deeper insights or directions to bubble up. Confusion usually occurs when the mind is trying too hard to decide. When this occurs we need to open, relax and surrender the mind so that deeper wisdom can be accessed. Do you feel free in your life? What areas can you open up to allow for more freedom in your world? Remember that you can change your circumstances but true freedom requires an open mind and a realisation of who you are beyond circumstances and thought.
As you walk back down to complete a full circuit head south down the road towards Tallows Beach Lookout. Follow the path winding down and take the footpath to the left that takes you through the coastal rainforest and brings you out at Captain Cooks car park. You can then walk back onto the beach and walk the final stretch back to Clarkes Beach.
