Everything you have ever yearned for is right here now.
The present moment fully opened to and fully surrendered to... is the true gift of this life.
One of the biggest requests that I get from counselling clients is they want to live more in the present moment. They want to stop dwelling in the past and stop worrying about the future.
If you too have been getting frustrated in your ability to remain present... I have some good news for you!
If you have been trying hard to stay present for a while... it may be time to STOP TRYING to be present and just be.
I know, I know all the masters tell us to be present... but are they talking about the mind or YOU!
It is the nature of the mind to seek movement. It loves to move between the past and the future seeking solutions, seeking understanding, seeking freedom, seeking resolution, seeking success, seeking happiness. It is the nature of the mind to seek, seek, seek.
Let it go I say.
Let it run wild and free.
In fact, ask the mind to run faster and faster into the past and into the future. Let it sprint until it is exhausted in its endless search.
The truth is... YOU, the true YOU, .... is always in the present moment.
Your very nature is presence, silence, here, now, eternal.
The only aspect that is wandering off into the past and future is your mind.
You are not your mind. YOU are always present.
Most of us have tried to keep the mind present and noticed how it rarely stays there.
"If only I could be as peaceful as I was on that retreat."
"If only I could be as present as I was when I sat with that meditation master."
"If only I could get this or that or be rid of this or that, THEN my mind would stay present."
"Oh back then I was present but now I'm stuck in worry again."
This is just a natural shifting of the mind. Let it be.
Turn your focus from watching the mind move from the past to the present and focus on the silence that is observing the movement.
STOP trying to stop the mind and just be.
You can only ever be the present moment.
It is effortless.
It is the easiest state to be.
It is who you are.
And off the mind goes again worrying about how to do it and how you can make it stay.
Let the mind go and pay attention to the silence.
Allow the active mind to become more passive.
Allow the mind to do it's seeking passively in the background.
YOU wont be affected by the minds babbling concerns if you have awoken to who you really are... beyond the mind.
It is time to wake up to your silent nature.... true presence.
Awakening is so funny!
We try for years to attempt to keep the mind in the present moment. Focus on your breath. "Ooops next thought. Back to the breath. There the mind goes again off planning again. Stop it naughty mind. Back to the breath. Hmmm I wander what's for dinner. Ahhhh back to the breath again."
This style of meditation is useful in the beginning but when we have developed a strong ability to witness... there comes a time when we turn away from watching the mind and we pay more attention to who is watching.
True liberation comes from allowing the mind to do as it will... cart wheels and all... and simply awakening to who you really are beyond the mind so that you are no longer as interested your thoughts.
Let the mind dwell in the past while YOU can live peacefully in the present.
When you learn to allow the storms of the mind to come and go and realise that you are the vast sky in which they pass by, you stop trying to control your thoughts and emotions and let them be.
Let yourself be human and simply awaken to your true essence of silence, peace and eternal presence.
Stop putting so much pressure on your poor mind to be still and let it do it's wild dance while YOU awaken.
