Do you ever dim your light in certain company because you don't want to be cut down like a tall poppy?
Do you hold back your success for fear of being criticised or judged?
Tall Poppy Syndrome is common in Australia but is evident in all Anglo-nations. It is a social phenomenon where people who are seen as successful in an area are resented, attacked, cut down or criticised... simply because of their talents or achievements.
I have experienced it myself and my mentoring clients in the Peace Passion & Profit Mastermind often report they feel a subconscious fear that holds them back from shining too bright in their business and life.
So let's look under the hood of this pesky Tall Poppy Syndrome and clear the way for you to bloom as you are designed to.
Below are my 4 tips to give yourself permission to fully bloom!
1. Monitor your self criticism. It appears that the more we tend to criticise or judge ourselves the more we tend to attract those who try to cut us down as we grow. Many of us feel very insecure as we move out into the public eye to share our message as the inner judging voice often gets louder. We can start to second guess everything we write, say and share which opens us up to greater criticism from the outside. Be your own best supporter and be sure to praise and encourage yourself at each step of your growth.
2. Heal old wounds. Many people have childhood memories where we were shamed for shining bright. Maybe it upset our siblings, schoolmates or peers and we quickly learned to dim our light and set limits on our success so that we were approved of. These old wounds need to be healed in order for us to no longer associate our success with guilt or upset for others. Write a letter the the inner child within and give them permission to bloom.
3. Rebell against tribal norms. Many people are part of a family, tribe or community where the norm is to live a certain way. When you step up to be the best version of yourself and create your dream, it can send you on a path that is very different and sometimes not approved of by the standards set in your community. We can often have internal 'contracts' with our tribe to stay small... these need to be rewritten and permission granted for you to be ALL that you came to this planet to be.
4. Ditch comparison. The easiest way to no longer feel the effects of being a 'Tall Poppy' is to run your own race, follow your own heart and only ever compete against yourself. May you strive to be the best version of yourself and no longer pay attention to how 'tall' that makes you amongst the field. Simply bloom as you are destined to bloom and you will inspire much more people than you will upset.
It's your time to no longer play small, to shine bright and to open and bloom like the true natural spectacle that you are!
In the Peace Passion & Profit Mastermind we have a safe and powerful community of support where you are encouraged and celebrated for each tiny step of your growth.
